A Little Introduction

A Little Introduction

I remember watching my Nanna inhale and exhale from her long white cigarette; the smoke fascinated me, I thought it looked like silk dancing through the air. She was stood in our kitchen, in 6inch stilettos, wearing a classic black dress, the fur coat of all fur coats and dress jewels hanging from anywhere possible! She was seventy and fabulous, I was six and mesmerized. I remember thinking…I want to be like that when I’m older!

I didn’t turn out quite like that (well not yet anyhow!) I didn’t inherit her love of smoking for one! However I did inherit her love of fashion and high glamour, and her need to ‘dress up’ for every occasion. I inherited her personality and fiery temperament but, best of all, I inhered …  her clothes!

My name is Sian, and I am a new contributor to ‘Looking Glass’, I will be contributing by writing articles about my day to day experiences, inspirations and observations.

I am a professional actress graduating for drama school in 2004, a writer and a long time devotee, enthusiast & collector of all things fashion. I’m influenced by so many things, but to list a few; old English romance (I see so much old English romance in the Looking Glass designs), 1950’s tea garden glamour (the Rose, Gloria and Virginia dresses all from Looking Glass are my biggest summer crushes so far!). The 1960’s is a big influence to me. Late Beatles, Pattie Boyd and Yoko to name but a few. Edie Sedgwick is my all time fashion icon, from her early days as a rich society girl, to her edgy end in the streets of Manhattan.  I love Kate Moss, yesterday, today and forever more! Early 90’s grime a la Alexander McQueen. I was also very lucky to have stylish peers, both my Mother and Nanna were huge fashion collectors and influences for me, they both refused to throw out one item from there fabulous wardrobe resulting in me having a wonderful, yet varied, vintage clothes collection without spending a penny!

I hope you enjoy reading my posts
